As the mother of a three year old who just turned three, I had to wonder if visiting Batuu with a young child was worth it. Is there something to do with the kids in this Star Wars land? Fortunately I was able to visit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in multiple visits and experienced almost everything this new area of Disneyland has to offer. From souvenirs to dining to entertainment to tours, this is my guide to attending Disney's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with preschoolers and toddlers.

Adapt Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to your day

If you're traveling to Disneyland with toddlers or preschoolers, how can you fit Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge into your day and ensure your little ones get to enjoy the rest of the park? Of course, your toddlers and preschoolers may not be old enough to experience the games in Star Wars Land. However, there are still things for young guests to experience and enjoy on this new 14-acre property. Read on to find out what preschoolers and toddlers can do at Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge attractions

Batuu has a promenade, several restaurants, and many shops, but are they all suitable for toddlers or preschoolers?

Millennium Falcon: The Smuggler's Race

The minimum height for this tour is 38 inches. This prevents many toddlers and some preschoolers from participating in this attraction. Great guy? Read on and I'll tell you what I think about whether you should go.

Also, FASTPASS and MaxPass will not be used for this tour, at least initially. This can lead to long waits in line, even if you want to use the Rider Switch.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (4)

In Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, looking out the window.

An alternative to using the Rider Switch is to have adults and children who meet the size requirements use the Single Rider range. Each Single Rider guest sits separately in different vehicles and cannot request shared seats. Therefore, using Single Rider only works for adults or families with older children who may be separated from their parents.Read more aboutDisneyland height requirements.

Star Wars: The Rise of the Resistance

The second journey in Galaxy's Edge,Star Wars: The Rise of the Resistanceopened in January 2020. The height requirement is 40″, which may discourage many preschoolers from walking. The trackless ride is a 20+ minute experience filled with unexpected twists. As this is an intensive tour, this tour may not be suitable for infants or preschoolers.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (5)

Should a preschooler drive the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run?

My 2 year old was big for his age. He would have managed to meet the size requirements for Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. But is the tour too intense for children? What about preschoolers? Having ridden this attraction several times (including with my 3 year old), these are my thoughts.

Millennium Falcon: The Smuggler's Raceis a realistic adventure that combines motion simulator, video game-like on-screen action with interactive features. Each of the 6 people in the cockpit is assigned a "job" (two each): pilot (left and right), gunner, and engineer.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (6)

Of these three positions, the best place for a preschooler would be as a chaser. The driver has a lot of responsibility and the gears respond very well. Each driver is told over the loudspeaker what to do while he is driving (eg "Left driver, press the button", etc.).

The engineer's position is buzzing with activity as various buttons that need to be pressed light up. It is also in the back of the cabin and children may have trouble seeing the screen.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (7)

The gunner's position is the easiest for a preschooler to navigate. There's a button that lights up brightly when it needs to be pressed repeatedly, and another big button that only needs to be pressed a few times when powering up. Jobs are assigned via a tagged card during queue, but it's appropriate to trade with your child to ensure they get the scorer position.

Something to keep in mind for smugglers traveling with children

An additional observation: there are 6 individual chairs in the cabin (three on each side with an aisle in the middle). Since the seats are separated, you sit separately from your child. I know that when my children were little, in intense urges, they at least comforted themselves by sitting next to me or even holding my hand. Preschoolers are not allowed to do this with you on this tour as they all sit in separate chairs. You need to get to know your child and find out in advance if this will be a problem.

My experience with my preschooler on the Millennium Falcon

On our last ride, my 3.5 year old daughter was big enough to pedal. She was assigned the position of gunner and her uncle and I were in the position of pilot. Other guests sat in engineering positions. As we entered the booth, the artist told me that my daughter had to sit across from me. He put my daughter in the left front pilot's seat and I was behind her as a gunner.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (8)

As you can see by the look on his face, he didn't like the seating arrangement. In fact, she cried out loud for most of the trip. She refused to touch the buttons. Luckily, in my seat behind her, I was able to lean forward a bit to touch her arms to calm myself down. Knowing how bad this was for my daughter, I would choose to just sit next to her in the gunner or engineer position in the future.

Dining at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with toddlers and preschoolers

There are five locations in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to find food and snacks. Advance reservations (ADR) are not required for any of the dining options available at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Oga's Cantina requires reservations, but that's mostly just for drinks. All offer a quick-service style, and most offer mobile ordering (order food through the Disneyland app and click when you're ready to pick it up). A handy time saver, especially for parents with hungry children!

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge for Preschoolers and Toddlers - Kids Meals

If you're looking for standard theme park prices, you won't find them at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. There is no such thing as a potato chip in this galaxy far, far away. The children's menu is definitely on the more adventurous side. Two of the three articlesDocking Bay 7 Food and CargoThey are healthier Disney Check options. Would your preschooler taste these dishes based on these descriptions?

  • Patty Bun Ithorian Garden(Disney Check) - Bao bun with veggie burger, roasted carrots, sweet orange and house sauce
  • A tasting of Takodana(Disney Check) - Black bean hummus served on an edible base with nuts, cold vegetables and multigrain fries
  • Tip-yip Endorian Frito– Crispy chicken served with macaroni and cheese and seasonal vegetables

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (11)

Tip-yip Endorian Frito

All Star Wars kids meals at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo include a choice of small skim milk or small Dasani water. This location offers mobile ordering and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Meals are served on metal trays with authentic dishes.

Garden Burger (my daughter didn't want any of these)

Food samples in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

For research purposes I ordered all three options from the children's menu. Of the three, Tip-yip seems to be the most kid-friendly. It's essentially a square "chicken nugget" served with mac and cheese along with carrots and green beans. It was a little bland for my taste, but most kids would be fine with that. Although I see some kids don't like the uniqueness of the food shapes (square chicken, round pasta instead of elbows). And of course, don't call it Endorian Tip-yip or you'll make sure your kid doesn't touch it.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (13)

A tasting of Takodana

I also tried A Taste of Takodana, which is more like a raw food dish for adults (note that adults can order from the kids' menu without a child!). I enjoyed this vegetarian dish even though it seems too fancy for children. Hummus has a strange color and a spicy note.

The Ithorian Garden Patty Bun was tasty, with a creamy sauce to add. However, my preschooler did not have any of these actions (as you can tell by his facial expression!). He loves carrots and would not touch them. The only thing he ate was the orange!

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (14)

Do children prefer adult dining options?

Teens can share some of the adult menu items at Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo. I have eaten here for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have some advice on what the kids might like. The Mustafarian Cinnamon Roll is delicious and this weekend a full breakfast is on the menu. Complete the chorizo, the pieces of egg and the potatoes.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (15)

Consider the cavatelli pasta served with the braised shaak roast or the pitas at the Felucian Garden Spread. We tried several dishes and found many to be spicy so be careful.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (16)

Yobsham Pasta Salad

Yobshrimp Noodle Salad has a light dressing and is very light and flavorful. Whether your fish-eating child will eat remains to be seen. The desserts are decidedly for adults, but still kid-friendly. The Oi-oi puff pastry is filled with creamy passion fruit mousse. The beautiful Batuu-bon with coffee cream was a hit!

Another meal option for children.

Ronto Roasters, inside the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace, offers an additional food location that also offers mobile ordering. Since they do not offer a children's menu, if your child eats meat, he may prefer these options for lunch. You can't miss droid 8D-JB spinning the meat skewer in the courtyard.

  • Ronto Wrap - Roasted pork and grilled sausage with pepper sauce and tangy salad wrapped in flatbread
  • Nuna Turkey Jerky - choose sweet or spicy

Ronto Wrap e Sour Sarlacc da Ronto Roasters

I was able to try the ronto wrap and thought it was delicious, even though it was a strange mix of two meats and vegetables. My preschooler would probably eat the meat separately from the bun and would want the salad to go with it.

Some kids might like the specialty drinks, though one has caffeinated tea and another has a spicy kick.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge for Toddlers and Preschoolers - Toddler Snacks

The two snack places offer kid-friendly meals that toddlers and preschoolers will enjoy. However, you won't find the traditional "to go" snacks you'll see in other parts of the park (items like cold pickles, chips, pretzels, churros are...NOyou will find here). If you think your child needs a healthy snack, it's best to buy one before heading to Star Wars land.

the milk stallit only sells blue and green milk and mobile ordering is possible. This is a colorful frozen drink that kids will probably love. This "milk" is actually plant-based (coconut and rice milk) and has a thick, creamy consistency that remains like a slushie. Blue Milk tastes a bit like a Sweetart candy and Green Milk has a fruitier flavor.

You can also find specialty drinks from Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge at Kat Saka's Kettle. Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite, and Dasani water come in exclusive Star Wars Land bottles (and there's a total limit of three per guest per transaction). My preschooler doesn't drink soda and couldn't care less about the design, but the round bottles are the perfect size for little hands!

Children are allowed in Oga¿Cantina?

Drink at Disneyland? Yeah, now that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge is open, it's a thing! For the first time, alcoholic beverages will be sold to the public at Disneyland Park. This is a hot spot as evidenced by the long line outside to get in. But you can bring your toddler or preschooler inside. There are just a few things you need to know and I'll answer the main questions.

  • Each guest has a maximum of two alcoholic drinks.
  • Time in the canteen is limited to 45 minutes. I'm not sure how the team actually monitors this.
  • All alcoholic beverages must remain in the canteen.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (24)

How do you enter Oga's Cantina?

This family bar is absolutely one of the hot spots for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. Oga's Cantina accepts advance reservations for meals that are not generally available. You must book as soon as possible. If you wait to book, there are usually only nights left. My daughter fell asleep at 9:30 p.m. just before our reservation this summer. Unfortunately we only made itacquirestanding on a table so we took turns holding her up while she slept.

More Q&A from Oga's Cantina

Can I bring a stroller to Oga's Cantina?

Across from me sat a couple with a sleeping baby in a stroller. Although they managed to keep the baby in line in the stroller, they had to wake up and pull the baby out to the front of the line. Stroller parking is across the walkway.

What can children do in Oga's Cantina?

Guests may recognize the DJ R-3X (also known as REX). He is the Starspeeder 3000 pilot droid first seen in Star Tours. He is now the DJ of the Cantina and can be seen here blasting the tunes and chatting. Upbeat dance music in the cantina definitely adds to the exuberant atmosphere. REX is on the left side of the cantina, so try to sit on that side if you can. He is a lot of fun and children will enjoy watching him in action.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (25)

What's on the kids' menu at Oga's Cantina?

While the adults treat themselves to a Fuzzy Tauntaun or Bespin Fizz, there are some specialty non-alcoholic drinks for the little ones. Soft drinks are about $6 each.

The Cliff Dweller is a souvenir mug and drink for older children. Please note that the mug itself is extremely heavy! (Note that prices have gone up since this photo was taken!)

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (26)

  • Hyperdrive (¡Golpéalo!)Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, White Cranberry Juice, Black Cherry Puree, and Sprite

  • bantha azul-Blue milk served cold with a bantha-inspired vanilla shortbread cookie
  • blurry fire –Lemonade, Pomegranate and Habanero Lime Juice
  • carbon freezing -Powerade Lemon Lime, Wild Strawberry, Blueberry and Green Apple Pears

There are also two "refreshments" and a snack. The most suitable for children is calledoga's obsession. It comes as a flavor mix of lemonade, cotton candy and blueberry pearls with a trail mix. Served in a scientific-style petri dish, it resembles the texture of gelatin. This is definitely a fun option for kids!

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (27)

water supply

The snack is a crunchy mix of Batuu Bits to snack on! The only other type of food on Oga's menu is the Happabore Sampler, which includes cured meats, cheese, and crackers.

Conclusion: Should you take the kids to Oga's canteen?

For parents who want the full Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge experience, Oga's Cantina is a must! The atmosphere is fun, there is a lot to see and the drinks are unique. However, the canteen is also crowded and seats are extremely limited. The bar is standing room so don't expect a seat inside. So here are my thoughts on bringing kids to Oga's Canteen.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (28)

You drink -Since strollers are not allowed, you will definitely want a forward-facing stroller to carry your baby. You should have your hands free to hold your drink. It's a bit noisy inside, but nothing too much for babies.

Toddlers and Preschoolers –With small rooms and limited seating, I'd say you really need to get to know your child and decide if Oga's Cantina is a good fit for your family. When toddlers and preschoolers stand in line for an hour and then go back inside, they can get upset. If you have a rowdy or wayward kid who isn't by your side at the bar, you should probably skip them.

Kinder -Kids ages 5 and up will probably like Oga's Cantina. The kid next to me was 9 and tall enough to see over the top of the bar so he could see all the action (especially the critters and drink making). I was also with my 7 year old son and he enjoyed the fun drinks and atmosphere.

Memories in Star Wars Land for toddlers and preschoolers?

If there's one thing about Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, it's an abundance of merchandise and shopping. And while many of the items for sale are aimed at collectors, there are some kid-worthy gifts here, too. I have listed the stores and details of what you will find in each store for preschoolers and toddlers.

The Play Disney Parks app is a smart way to experience the parks with games, trivia and music. The app is a great hobby while you wait in line. I'm not terribly keen on giving my smartphone to my preschooler (let alone a toddler who might throw it away on a whim!). However, the Play Disney Parks app has a few things that preschoolers and older would enjoy, so I would definitely add the app and play with it if I had the time.

*NEW FOR 2020* Bina's Guide to Batuu Creatures

I discovered this new activity for children with my friend Dustylittle mouse. Pick up one of the free guides at any market stall. Children can hunt Batuu's creatures (including a womp cat or mouse). The artists seal each activity book, and when they are done, the children receive a special sticker. It's a simple activity, but one that resonates with younger children.

Potentially Scary Things for Preschoolers in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge

The inner vibrationBatuu is nervous. creaturesand droids can be found everywhere, some in stores or roaming the country. Stormtroopers and First Order officers march in and talk to the guests. It was a bit awkward for me, so what will it be like to experience Galaxy's Edge with kids? There are definitely things about Star Wars Land that could terrify your toddler or preschooler.

Some other things to consider:

  • Stop for a drink at the water fountain at Black Spire Outpost Market and watch the eye of a Dianoga (a slimy, tentacled carnivore) bulge out of the water tank.
  • SomeThe souvenir dolls sold at Creature Stall are creepy, with creepy teeth and eyes. My daughter saw a look, she screamed and ran!
  • The taxidermic creatures in Dok-Ondar's lair of antiquities can be a bit creepy, including a Womp rat and Profrogg.

  • Do all you can in Fantasyland with a toddler or preschooler right away during your Extra Magic Hour or Magic Morning. You must be able to play Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Mad Tea Party, Storybook Boats, Casey Jr. Circus Train, Alice in Wonderland, and Carousel.
  • The queue for the Peter Pan flight can be up to 30 minutes in the morning, so I recommend skipping this and heading back to the area later in the day.
  • ThoseTen minutes before the park's official opening, take the kids through the Fantasyland shortcut to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge via Frontierland.Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (44)

How will the virtual tail explain the increase in resistance?

When Disneyland reopens in 2021, a "virtual queue" will be required for guests to ride Rise of the Resistance. The virtual boarding lane has also been implemented at Disney Hollywood Studios at Disney World. The first opportunity is at 7:00 am where guests will have access to the virtual boarding group before entering the parks. The second chance to secure entry to Rise of the Resistance is at 12:00 p.m. m. and is only accessible to those who have scanned the Disneyland park.

If riding this attraction is important to you, be sure to use the Disneyland app or the My Disney Experience app. Set an alarm on your phone to remind you!

Additional Tips for Exploring Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers

Here are some quick things to know before heading to Star Wars Land with toddlers or preschoolers.

Should I bring a stroller to Galaxy's Edge?

Yes, this 14-acre area is much larger than the public areas of Disneyland. I recommend a stroller when walking with children under 4 or children who are still asleep in the middle of the day.

Is there a recreation area at Star Wars Land?

NO. While there are general areas for kids to run around, there's no designated playground or playground. Hopefully something will be added to the land in the future where kids can play (similar to the playground in Toontown in front of Goofy's house).

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge with Toddlers and Preschoolers (48)

Are there traditional Disneyland snacks in Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge?

While the rest of Disneyland has churros, popcorn, candy, pretzels, sundaes, popsicles, and buttered popcorn on every corner, you won't find any of that at Galaxy's Edge. I wouldn't rule them out in the future, but if you want a snack like this, visit Fantasyland or Frontierland first before heading to Star Wars Land.

What can you do in Star Wars Land at night?

One of the highlights of the night are the fireworks. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge offers a unique take on this pyrotechnics, albeit with a twist. Traditional music is not played the way it is seen from a small world mall or Main Street U.S.A. The fireworks are also a bit closer. That means they are also larger than usual. But the view of the fireworks behind the Batuu Towers is amazing!
