Savi's Workshop Lightsaber Build Review: Is It Worth It? (1)

Galaxy's Edge und Disney's Hollywood Studiosis gaining popularity for a variety of different experiences, one of which is the opportunity for guests to build their own custom lightsaber at Savi's Workshop. But the experience of building a lightsaber is worth it.miMoney?

Well, I recently had the opportunity to build my own sword at Galaxy's Edge and in this article I'm going to break down everything you need to know and what surprises you can expect on your next visit to Hollywood Studios.

Savi's Workshop: Handcrafted Lightsabers

I'm sure you've all heard of Savi's Workshop, home of a group called "The Gatherers" who are said to collect junk and antiques that look like junk to everyone else.

Here "travellers" like you can come in and build your own lightsaber. A collector tells you about the "power of the force" and instructs you and helps you to build a lightsaber yourself.

This, of course, is the story behind Savi's Workshop. The detail behind this whole experience is absolutely wild. Honestly, that's why it's worth spending money to build your own lightsaber. It's an experience to remember; an experience that fully immerses you in the world of Star Wars and the Jedi.

If you are a Star Wars fan, this is one of the best experiences you can ever have. It's absolutely magical and you are part of the story. In fact, you are in the middle of your story. The goal of Galaxy's Edge is not only to take you straight to the heart of the Star Wars universe, but also to encourage you to invent your own story. How exactly does Savi's Workshop work? Let's dive!

Savi's workshop reserves

Because Savi's Workshop is a true Disney experience, you must make a reservation to build your lightsaber. Reservations can be viewed and madeHere, while you can also call to make one. Savi's is a popular experience and is subject to availability, so book early.

Reservations can be made 180 days in advance, giving you plenty of time before your trip. Failure to reserve in advance does not mean that you cannot attend. It is only recommended that you complete them as soon as possible to avoid filling up and being unable to build your lightsaber.

On the day of your reservation, you must check in no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled time. The registration office is directly opposite Savi's Workshop and is very easy to find. Savi's is right in the middle of Galaxy's Edge, next to the Droid Depot and Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities.

If you get lost, there are many "Batuu residents" or cast members you can ask where Savi is. All people who are part of your reservation must be present at check-in. Make sure you arrive on time! Late arrival cannot be considered. Upon check-in you will be asked for your reservation number, photo ID and credit card. Payment must be made at check-in.

The registration process is very simple. It only takes a few minutes, and then it's not long before the lightsaber building experience begins. It won't take more than 15 minutes if you check in exactly 15 minutes before your reservation.

During this time you can look at the different lightsaber part options and see an example of how to assemble your lightsaber from a cast member. The wait doesn't seem long.

The environment and the process.

Well, here comes thelustigPaper. The details of this experience are beyond your wildest dreams. To be honest, the entire land of Galaxy's Edge is beyond your wildest dreams, but for now, let's focus on Savi's Workshop. It's absolutely amazing.

Let's start from the beginning. As I mentioned before, Savi's Workshop is in the center of Galaxy's Edge. It's next to Dok-Ondar's Droid Depot and Antiquities Cave. Again, if you get lost, ask any of the performers and they will help you find it straight away. You can also find it on the Disney's Hollywood Studios map, which you can pick up at the beginning of the park.

Once you find Savi's, you'll see that it really is the perfect place to build a lightsaber. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but this is where "collectors" are said to store their junk, antiques, and historical pieces they find throughout the galaxy.

The story goes that these men and women dedicated their lives to restoring balance to the galaxy and passing on their knowledge of the power and ancient ways of the Jedi.

Savi is said to be one of the first collectors, hence the workshop that bears his name. If you're drawn to the Force and fancy building your own lightsaber, know you've come to the right place at a giant blue and white icon outside of Savi's. More details about the story behind the Collectors can be found here.Here.

At check-in, you pay upon arrival and a "collector" will ask you what type of lightsaber you would like to build that day. There are four different types of lightsabers:

peace and justice- These are pieces intended to be salvaged from ancient Jedi temples and starships representing the Republic era.

power and control- This style is rumored to contain parts of the Sith homeworld and its temples.

elemental nature- The theme of this selection involves the Force with its lightsaber made of creatures like the bark of a Brylark tree and Rancor fangs.

protection and defense- They are pieces that retain inscriptions and motifs from the ancient world of Might and Jedi, giving the Republic a very old feel.

I was drawn to the Elemental Nature theme and love my lightsaber! A menu is made available to you when you sign in, and you can view the tiles for each theme you see to choose which one you want to create.

Signing up gives you a pin representing your theme, so collectors know what parts to give you as you build.

You then wait to enter Savi's shop while you're briefly explained how to assemble your lightsaber parts. Each builder can also bring a guest to the workshop to watch the process. For example, if your group consists of two builders, you can bring two guests: one for each builder. Parts include:

  • 1 Faust
  • 4 mangoes (you choose two)
  • 2 radiators (you choose one)
  • 2 button covers (you choose one)
  • 2 sets of activation plates and switches (choose one set)

Upon entering Savi's Workshop, the collectors will direct you to the location where you will build your lightsaber. A Core Collector begins the process by sharing your knowledge of the Force and what you will be doing that day. They explain what the force is and all about a lightsaber and how the force guides you to build your own custom lightsaber.

To be honest I was completely insane. The whole environment really draws you in and immerses you in this world. Having the soundtrack playing in the background while the Collector speaks is the icing on the cake. Choosing your kyber crystal, the center of the lightsaber, is amazing as this is the start of the lightsaber creation you envisioned in your mind.

The Kyber Crystal colors you can choose from are Blue, Green, Purple, Yellow, and Red.

The whole process is easy as the collectors guide you. If you have any questions, they are there to help you. Eventually I got so caught up in everything around me that I missed the next step in the process. The talking head collector came over and helped me build my lightsaber, it was so much fun! He was very nice and gave me time to choose the pieces.

They give you more than enough time to build your lightsaber and when you're done you place it on the stand in front of you. The Collector then explains that the final process, the bond between the builder and the saber, is about to be forged. Meanwhile, the special presence of a very famous Jedi from the past can interrupt the Collector. Master Yoda appeared during our group session and added that extra touch of magic by hearing a very famous character from the stories.

Collectors must then ensure that the "hilt and blade calibration" is perfect by placing the lightsaber hilt in a compartment that connects it to the blade.

Then, at some point, the head collector will order you to activate your lightsabers. This moment is so awesome because all the builders lightsabers light up showing all the different colors each builder chooses.

The compartment containing your lightsaber will open and you will be prompted to pick up your lightsabers. That moment was so surreal and I was more of a nerd again. The music reaches its climax in the building and everything else, fully immersing you in the story. What makes it even better is that it's your own story because you designed and built your custom lightsaber the way you want it.

At the end of the build process, you'll receive a case for your lightsaber so you can carry it around the park as you please. If you are an extreme Star Wars fan, this is an experience for you. It really was the highlight of my visit to Galaxy's Edge and I'm so glad I did. If you're remotely thinking of doing this, you absolutely must.

Who is Savi for?

I'm here to tell you thatanyvonanyDude can enjoy Savi! It's not something that's just for kids.

One of the most frequently asked questions is who exactly is Savi's Workshop for? Which age group is it more suitable for: children or adults?

In fact, more adults than children have enjoyed the experience since it opened. The park has other, more kid-friendly experiences, like the Jedi Academy show and lightsaber building at Tattooine Traders near Star Tours.

The lightsabers built at Tattooine Traders are plastic and have expandable blades, and the process is much shorter and easier as you are in a gift shop. Savi's workshop is an immersive experience for adults and children alike.

As far as I could tell, most youth and adults had this experience. There were also several children, but mainly older children and adults took part. Although this is not always the case, some children have experimented because their parents really wanted it. If you are older and want to make a lightsaber, this experience is for you.

The recommended age is five years or older. That being said, the lightsaber is a real, heavier item that can be difficult for young children. While it can take a beating, it's also fragile, so care should be taken when letting younger children handle it. Lightsabers can be used to fake a "duel", but you don't want to do it every time. They can also be used for display and decoration, which is what many people do. If a child is the builder, make sure the lightsaber is fragile and can break if you're not careful.

In short, the experience is for people of all ages. It's all very cozy and fun, and whether you're seven or seventy, you can create your own lightsaber.

Savi's Workshop-Preis

As of this writing, the price per lightsaber is $199.99 plus tax, which is a pretty steep price (prices are subject to change). Many people turn this down when they see how much it costs and doesn't fit Disney's budget. You are doing absolutely nothing wrong. However, let me tell you what's included in this price range.

What people don't realize is that it's an experience, not just building a lightsaber. The experience lasts between twenty and thirty minutes, and you'll find yourself in a complete Star Wars atmosphere, hearing about the Force and the Jedi from a collector, and personally choosing the parts you want on your lightsaber. The lightsaber itself is a quality item, heavy and presentable. It makes sense why it's expensive, but for all the experience with it, it's definitely worth the price.

It's not something you walk into a gift shop and pull off the shelf and pay $200, but a high quality immersive activity that doesn't end in a few minutes. The $200 includes your choice of lightsaber pin, lightsaber customization, kyber crystal, an immersive experience, and a case for your lightsaber to guide you through the park. Overall, the $200 all-inclusive price pays off and is definitely worth the price.

However, there are some things that are separate. The good thing is that this is your choice to get them, so you don't have to spend money on them if you don't want to. Upon checking in at Savi's you will be asked if you would like to purchase a belt clip so you can wear your lightsaber on your belt. The belt clip costs $17.99 and can also be purchased atDok-ondars Cave of Antiquities.

A carrying case is available for you to take your lightsaber with you when you leave the workshop. However, if you want a more detailed one, Dok-Ondar also offers a lightsaber scabbard for $49.99. A lightsaber stand for displaying your lightsaber is also available for $24.99. This increases the price of

The Savi's Workshop experience, of course, but you don't have to buy these accessories if you don't want to. The only thing I bought upon check in was the belt clip. I mean it was worth it because I really enjoyed walking around the park with my lightsaber on my belt. Lightsabers are heavy, so be sure to have a sturdy belt and/or pants that fit around your waist so the lightsaber doesn't weigh down your pants.

In general, the price can seem daunting at first, and with good reason! However, if you're looking at everything that goes into the lightsaber building experience, it's definitely something to consider, especially if you're a huge Star Wars fan.

my last thoughts

I was recently fortunate enough to experience Savi's Workshop in person and as a huge Star Wars fan it was beyond my imagination. I had seen various videos and pictures on social media but nothing compared to staying there and experiencing it for myself.

On my last trip with my mom and brother, my brother and I decided to build lightsabers. Our mom was our guest and not being the biggest Star Wars fan herself, even she was blown away by the amount of immersion and fun that went into the whole experience. He loved seeing our little faces throughout the event and enjoyed every little detail that came with it.

As someone who doesn't know much about Star Wars, my mom really enjoyed it and raved about everything we made. Seeing the joy on the faces of your kids, your parents, your friends, you name it is always a real treat, especially when you are part of a fandom they truly love.

Galaxy's Edge as a whole is absolutely amazing as it is the heart of Savi's Workshop. A lot of people have asked us where we got our lightsabers from and whether it was worth it or not, and we always said yes. What I'm saying is that if you're remotely thinking about doing this, you must do this activity.

If you're a Star Wars fan, this experience should definitely be on your Disney to-do list. What Star Wars fan hasn't dreamed of picking up their Kyber crystal and crafting their own lightsaber? It truly feels like you have entered the Jedi world and become one with the Force as you build your lightsaber.

Yes, that's a lot of money for something that might not seem worth it at first glance. However, if you pay the fee, you get a lot more than just the lightsaber. The experience is unlike any other at the Disney Parks and is a full twenty to thirty minute show/experience for guests.

The atmosphere is perfect and makes you feel like you're really surrounded by all the artifacts, junk and antiques that collectors have amassed over the years. Something different is experienced in the Star Wars universe that isn't necessarily shown in the movies. However, you'll hear about classic and legendary Jedi like Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi, and you'll even hear the ghost of Master Yoda.

My final word on Savi's workshop is that it's worth it. The experience is unlike any other at the Disney Parks, and if you truly love the world of Star Wars, this is an experience you won't want to miss.
